16/02/2010 - Cathy slams Tory/SNP Council for rejection on budget pool plan

Local MSP Cathy Jamieson has slammed South Ayrshire Council for again rejecting a proposal to provide a new swimming pool in Girvan.

The proposal, included in the Labour Group budget, sought to provide £1m capital funding for the provision of a new pool, however it was rejected by Tory and SNP Councillors.

Commenting Ms Jamieson said:

“I am extremely disappointed that once again Tory and SNP Councillors have chosen to dismiss a viable proposal to provide a new swimming pool for Girvan.  It is clear that the SNP and the Tories are ignoring the wishes of the local community, and are treating their electorate with complete contempt.

“The campaign for a new pool is genuine community-led attempt to improve the local area.  I commend the Labour Group on South Ayrshire Council for ensuring that this issue is right at the top of their budget priorities.  Despite the actions of the Tories and SNP I know that people in Girvan will not give up easily, and I will give every support I can to assist their campaign and make their vision of a better Girvan a reality.”
